dear friends,

i attended the award ceremonies.. .i have the fotos..i saw miss kaight forgie wear a nice skirt...the awards were handed out to the winners..in the middle of the program..miss joy of matabungkay said "now we go to the handing out of the special awards for the race within a race the P20...may we call on dondie azarcon for 3rd, dennis dionisio for 2nd and atty tiboy reyes for First place the winner of the P20"

dondie azarcon wore his TEAM PLDT jersey to receive his special prize THE TIGERS OF P20..., dennis got his 2nd tiger and i stood up the podium as proxy to the winner of the P20 (pesos 20) race within a race awarded to ATTY TIBOY REYES of TEAMROCKA BIKESHOP...the photographers had their hands full taking fotos...i feel like i am a participant in LE TOUR DE FRANCE and after the photo shoot..the official fotographer asks us the winners (hehehe proxy of the winner) to raise the TIGERS (stuff toy) up in the air..the crowd burst into cheers ...so we had a good time... when i walked down the stage ernie hortaleza stood up reached his hand out say congratulations to us...and so did noy jopson and rest of the guys...so what can i say.... A FANTASTIC RACE..A FANTASTIC P20 race within the race.

FIGHTING LIKE WOUNDED TIGERS...the winners of the P20 race within the matabungkay race....dennis d menace dionisio of TEAM MJY BIKEZONE...raymond see receives the TIGER trophy for the CHAMPION ATTY TIBOY REYES of TEAM ROCKA and dondie azarcon receives his 3rd place tiger trophy for TEAM PLDT

..DONDIE AZARCON who was given 50-50 chance to live last may 2007 in Nazareth Hospital after a vehicular accident that totally wrecked his FORD TREKKER pick up truck ..(he thought he couldnt live to ride his bike again when i visited him..he was nearly in tears in may 2007) HE COULDNT BELIEVE HE COULD SURVIVE MATABUNGKAY 3 days race...he was very very happy....and i am very very happy for him.

anyway i will have my cup of coffee...the legal massage lady had been called on by my wife already to fix me up this morning (my leg muscles are still sore and i think i am gonna have a fever) ...so give me some time to rest and for sure i will write the lengthy report with the fotos.

i take time out to thank the organizer RAUL CUEVAS, ARCHITECT RICKY LEDESMA, the officials led by PAQUITO RIVAS and CARLOS GREDONA...I like to thank the participants of the 2008 TOUR of MATABUNGKAY. ..and all the WINNERS JON URUTIA ERNIE HORTALEZA ERIC CARANDANG ARLAND MACASIEB NOY JOPSON PHILIP ANGTUACO and the team winners ...I like to thank the MATABUNGKAY RESORT and miss joy... Thanks for posting the results Ray. I will later post a report from my perspective being a first time participant of a stage race.

What a Race! It was an unforgettable event made even more memorable because the Rocka1 wives enjoyed themselves as much as we did. So before I post my report let me first thank my wife chinggay for the love and support and 2 thumbs up to all the other biker moms of team rocka1 - Margie (wife of Ray See), Verna (wife of Rex Tan), Audrey (wife of Boy Tiples), Gwen "buntis" (wife of Philip Sainz), Bong (wife of Engr. Rolly).

The wives played their support roles like clockwork following the various team members in crucial areas of the course. They drove 4 support vehicles in convoy racing round the course supplying us with water, sports drinks, bananas as well as taking many snapshots and video - all these they did by themselves with no specific instructions from their husbands. Good work ladies!!! Smiley

The Rocka1 wives were very popular in the event with other teams who were all envious of the support. They were called "paparazzi" coz when the Rocka1 riders group together before each race the Rocka1 wives were always snapping pics. With no hesitation other teams sneaked in to join in the picture taking by the Rocka1 paparazzi.

Gwen Sainz despite being 5 months on the family way drove the family SUV to the feedpoints like it was just another Sunday drive.

The transponders were mounted about 12cms. from the dropout of the left leg of the fork. That's Rocka1 B team rider Winston Chua getting his transponder installed.

Congrats Raymond!!

Galing how you and your team performed!

And I liked how you were able to make it a family affair. I'm sure the races were only half the picture! Being able to enjoy the races and be with your family (paparazzi) after and enjoy the resort facilities with them and relax was probably your secret weapon!!

Looking forward to more race reports. Cheesy

My wife and I didnt stay at Matabungkay Beach Resort but in Ricky Reyes' Golden Sunset Village Resort & Spa in Calatagan which is about 15-20 mins away (http://www.goldensunset.ph/). The bonus for staying there was that the Miss Earth beauty contestants stayed for 2 nights we were there for their swimsuit shots and some gala show in the evening.

After the last day ITT i was hoping to get some novelty shots of one of them beauty contestants with my bike. But too bad they've already checked out that morning. The bonus however is that we had the whole 5 star resort all by ourselves that afternoon. Grin

That's me having a deep in the pool.

I hope we encourage more riders to do the same as Ray certainly inspired all our members. The effort of Mr.& Mrs. Rex Tan and Mr. & Mrs. Philip Sainz was admirable considering that they came all the way from Ormoc.

I also had a chat with Mr. Ricky Ledesma who heads the Xycos team that also participated in the race. The reason behind the XYcos name is that it refers to the X-Y chromosome or the male/female sex which therefore imply that the Xycos team is family orientated with the couples comprising the team.

My wife chinggay took this photo of me with Ricky Ledesma who brought with him a kick-ass Cervelo P3C for the TTT.

to raymund and the rest of team rocka plus the wives, thanks so much for having me as a guest rider in your team! ang hiraaap. next year, i will come prepared. you guys were very patient with me and always made sure i had someone with me during the TTT and the road race when i was dropped. Wink hehe. nahihiya nga ako kasi di naman ako kailangan hintayin!

on the first day (TTT), we were talking about starting out at 30-35kph. but when we started... whoaaa 40-42kph! @$!##@! di ko kinaya, and muntik na ko ma-drop agad. i was already dying at the 10km mark (the TTT is 50km!) and i had to recover so i got dropped from the group. some of my teammates stayed with me. there were 8 of us and we just needed 5 to finish so we let them go ahead. after a few more km, i guess the lead pack got tired too, and we were able to catch up with them. so it was good, we biked again together as one team. at the 30km mark, i lost power again, so i dropped from the group altogether. teammate phillip stayed with me and he even borrowed some money from the spectators so we can buy royal and gatorade from the sari-sari store. hehehe... but eventually, we finished. yey!

2nd day was the road race, 90km, and we had to do 2 loops (45k each). it was so hot! i finished off 5 bottles of water, gatorade and coke! well, i'm not a good climber. i really need to work on that, even if it's not so steep, i don't know... my legs just seem to stop working. sooo... ok naman ang road race, but once we got to the climbs, bye bye peloton! basically, i did a 30-km road race plus 60-km individual time trial. hahaha! i was ready to quit. since it was 2 loops, i thought, hmm when i finish the first loop, i'll just stop. this is no fun. but i biked with this guy named noey, he's from xycos triathlon team and we started talking. he said, don't stop, let's just finish it. we'll finish together! sooo i stuck it out! when we got to the finish line (1st loop), i didn't stop, just kept going. and going and going... until i finished the 90km! for fun, i even sprinted at the finish line hehe.

3rd day was the ITT. my plan was to maintain 30kph. sometimes i'd go 37-38... after the downhills. but well, since i didn't train, i'd lose power and sometimes go at 20kph. hehe. my body was already in pain from the road race the day before, so i just went at a relaxed pace... and finished at... 1 hour and 40 minutes! whoo! hahaha... well, i had fun anyway. nice to watch the other riders and to chat about bikes, racing, etc. looking forward to next year, and mag-ttraining na talaga ko.
