BosRay, this pic was after the 90kms road race as chinggay and margie took the same shots (i wore my red rocka jersey in the ITT). They saw Leian riding by and Engr. Rolly requested a shot from the rocka paparazzi with Leian and I and omar were asked to join in.

I remember this big group. They were behind us - carlos, omar, myself and an evervon rider - enroute or passed the balayan rotunda. I guess when they caught you, your group in turn caught us and it turned into a big group composed of 5-6 rocka riders. I was sad to learn we lost Carlos in this bunch when our 2 groups merged coz I really thought he was still with us with so many rocka riders in this bunch. Somehow Carlos and I had an unspoken pact to ride together in the road race.

The FFTri riders were so grateful at the finish for letting them work with us and get a free tow. I guess they witnessed for themselves how "saya" our group was and how we look after each rider when all were in the same zone physical-wise. This one big group arrived at the line and finished one rider at a time with only seconds apart when each rider placed his own attack at the finishing straight.

We had a miserable TTT. We only had 7 riders hence we can only afford to lose 2. Then we lost Winston at the opening 1/4 distance. The opening pace was blistering at 45kph average and the climbs were still a long way to go. Only 3 guys can maintain this pace and those were the 3 strong men composed of Rex Tan, Boy Tiples and Philip Sainz. I was thinking of conserving and looking after each other - at least the other 3 of us - myself, Engr. Rolly and Carlos - coz the 5th man will come from us.

The strong 3 continued on their way to the finish at the last 1/4 distance while the last 3 were dying to chase. The 3 of us ran out of water at the 2/3 distance and Carlos kept on asking if we are allowed to stop to buy water. I asked for water from Philip who shared his bottle but that was only a brief respite shortly before the strong 3 left us in their dust.

Engr. Rolly and I left Carlos at the last 1/5 distance before the final climbs. Engr. Rolly told me he too was prepared to leave the pack to join Winston at the opening 45kph run but somehow found the legs to hang on and after taking shelter till the last half he had new found legs to pace me till the finish and I was the 5th man.

The strong 3 of Rocka1B - Boy Tiples, Rex Tan and Philip Sainz.

The Rocka1B team shortly before being flagged for the TTT.

Our group was doing 45kph average opening pace. Thats me peeling off to the left with Philip taking over.

to raymund and the rest of team rocka plus the wives, thanks so much for having me as a guest rider in your team! ang hiraaap. next year, i will come prepared. you guys were very patient with me and always made sure i had someone with me during the TTT and the road race when i was dropped. Wink hehe. nahihiya nga ako kasi di naman ako kailangan hintayin!

on the first day (TTT), we were talking about starting out at 30-35kph. but when we started... whoaaa 40-42kph! @$!##@! di ko kinaya, and muntik na ko ma-drop agad. i was already dying at the 10km mark (the TTT is 50km!) and i had to recover so i got dropped from the group. some of my teammates stayed with me. there were 8 of us and we just needed 5 to finish so we let them go ahead. after a few more km, i guess the lead pack got tired too, and we were able to catch up with them. so it was good, we biked again together as one team. at the 30km mark, i lost power again, so i dropped from the group altogether. teammate phillip stayed with me and he even borrowed some money from the spectators so we can buy royal and gatorade from the sari-sari store. hehehe... but eventually, we finished. yey!

2nd day was the road race, 90km, and we had to do 2 loops (45k each). it was so hot! i finished off 5 bottles of water, gatorade and coke! well, i'm not a good climber. i really need to work on that, even if it's not so steep, i don't know... my legs just seem to stop working. sooo... ok naman ang road race, but once we got to the climbs, bye bye peloton! basically, i did a 30-km road race plus 60-km individual time trial. hahaha! i was ready to quit. since it was 2 loops, i thought, hmm when i finish the first loop, i'll just stop. this is no fun. but i biked with this guy named noey, he's from xycos triathlon team and we started talking. he said, don't stop, let's just finish it. we'll finish together! sooo i stuck it out! when we got to the finish line (1st loop), i didn't stop, just kept going. and going and going... until i finished the 90km! for fun, i even sprinted at the finish line hehe.

3rd day was the ITT. my plan was to maintain 30kph. sometimes i'd go 37-38... after the downhills. but well, since i didn't train, i'd lose power and sometimes go at 20kph. hehe. my body was already in pain from the road race the day before, so i just went at a relaxed pace... and finished at... 1 hour and 40 minutes! whoo! hahaha... well, i had fun anyway. nice to watch the other riders and to chat about bikes, racing, etc. looking forward to next year, and mag-ttraining na talaga ko.

Nina,
I salute you for your fighting spirit. The race is not easy and you finished it all. You have accomplished a hard goal that a lot are even afraid to participate. Be proud of your accomplishments. We are proud of you.

My wife and I didnt stay at Matabungkay Beach Resort but in Ricky Reyes' Golden Sunset Village Resort & Spa in Calatagan which is about 15-20 mins away (http://www.goldensunset.ph/). The bonus for staying there was that the Miss Earth beauty contestants stayed for 2 nights we were there for their swimsuit shots and some gala show in the evening.

After the last day ITT i was hoping to get some novelty shots of one of them beauty contestants with my bike. But too bad they've already checked out that morning. The bonus however is that we had the whole 5 star resort all by ourselves that afternoon. Grin

That's me having a deep in the pool.

After relaxing in the pool at Golden Sunset we had lunch and were entertained with a hula dance by Ricky Reyes' dancers at the resort.
