TOUR OF MATABUNGKAY oct 23 24 25 2009 race report

dear friends,



stage 1 i was tired and couldnt sleep oct 22..so performed miserably 87 kms to
batulao down nasugbu then paliko left turn go to balayan before finishing at
puting kahoy i got beaten by dennis dionisio and dondie. after they catch me 6
kilometers to the finish..im devastated.

stage2 road race...i felt good as this my second time to use the ZIPP 404
wheelset from alvin lo...i was with peloton until paliko eh they were climbing
36kph up that incline..i got dropped...but recovered then saw my other rival
team bike king up that climb so when i caught him..i attacked..bringing with me
7 riders including that marvin guy from team arena fitness...i become commander
of chase group naku we had 25 riders including BJ afable then caught up with
first peloton..before balayan..after i bridged gap i receive THANK YOU from
several guys including retsel team xycos...BJ also..however i saw dondie and
BENNIS inside peloton and lost interest again i got disheartened. .anyway i
ride my own pace. formed my own group again another 15 riders with Marvin who
was the strongest rider in my group. we caught Eusebio..caught Bennis later but
of course i have courtesy i ask eusebio and bennis hang on...work together
34-36kph only average speed dont attack.

i saw dondie azarcon down puting kahoy he removed his wheel offered to his team
PLDT 3rd man and he said he is out already of competition. .! its not good to
win this way against dondie..i later jokingly told him "either you have no
energy left to beat me or you want to help your strong climber..but next time
dont do that we have a race within a race" dondie and team PLDT laughs..

In the final 5 kilometers after balayan.. i gave WATER to my friend and
teammate who had most pulls..Marvin of Arena Fitness team. Then politely told
group.."this is last 5 kilometers you may attack..may the best man win thanks so
much for helping me get away from Dondie Azarcon" but only xterra olive
attacked and bennis said "let the lady go first" however the Leyte team rider
shouted "dont let the lady beat us" so he attacked. we countered (olive marvin
and me) and Leyte and rest of group got left behind. I wind up 126place out of
174..i am very very happy. i already beat 48 guys in stage 2 today.

stage 3
Team MJY boss bong cayco said he couldnt believe we team Franzia lost by only
1precious second to seasoned veteran SN ABOITIZ team... he said "ray your team
Franzia very very strong my team couldnt believe you nearly snatched 10th place
in the TTT..congrats"

Philip Go wearing his new AERO HELMET LIMAR put the aero helmet to good use as
per alex billan he was like a rocket sacrificed himself at the foot of climb
towed the 6 man team 40kilometers per hour then the 5 riders alex pinpin dennis
datu liston yao and ramon antonio zoomed for the finish line side by side.
dennis datu said they nearly crashed as a car got stuck at the finish line. me
? the speed the first 6 kilometers was 47 to 45kph i told philip i cant hang
on.."philip ikaw na.." hahahaha the team eventually finished 11th at the TTT.

stage 4 ITT

stage 4 was again the 40kms ITT..my previous time was 1:24:40 i wanted so hard to break record today..i have my cannondale system 6 with zipp 404 wheels.

i have a campy 50 teeth compact which i grind up and down the mountains.

when smoke cleared im happy i broke my time with a new 1:19:59

i look forward to race in Matabungkay again in 2010

Pinpin Uy (facing camera) was one of the most talked about rookie rider in Matabungkay this year.Congratulations Pin. thats the signature thumbs up from raymond see ok enough foto shoots..start struggling este working up the mountains again... 6pm I am in makati condo. im tired and hungry..but have to go to Church first....as I am very thankful..i rode another 4 stage event accident free....come on that was a scary race with 170 riders released as one bunch in stage 1 and stage 2. Raul Cuevas asking me where he can improve the race..I will tell him "next time .. please divide 180 riders into 2 groups of 90 riders each. For safety reasons" massage lady came at 830pm i had my massage..I am good as new for work...tomorrow. our team Franzia finished in 10th place at end of 4 stages...... from 26 super duper teams..means we did VERY VERY WELL! the boss and team owner sir Lucio treated the riders for nice italian dinner last night at Buon Giorno in tagaytay and Alex Billan lent us his Recreational Coaster van for use from Matabungkay to Tagaytay..wow. .we travelled first class. we had nice story telling at the italian restaurant. Alex also very happy the team time trial group did very well and finished 11th.. placed higher than 15 rival teams..so we are not cellar dwellers..unbelievable but true. the boss of course very very happy. i have to sort out photos. for manila peeps just ask my teammate Julio what happened when you see him in MOA Mall of Asia this thursday. Julio becomes the revelation in Matabungkay he is least prepared for the 4 days race..coach Querimit said its no joke to race this year in matabungkay. its a killer race...and so we are very very proud and happy that JULIO VIRAY finished FOUR STAGES..and inspite of what seems like unbearably painful left leg..BEAT 1 GUY at the ITT pa! BRAVO JULIO. I have to thank all the participants. Alex Billan was most valuable asset, Pinpin Uy is a rising superstar..yet humble and down to earth, ramon antonio silent professor fighting his heart out and so did Philip Go, Dennis Datu, Liston Yao, Alan, George, Edwyn...shane chin becomes our official team coordinator. ..Philip Opiasa became franzia marketing and Photographer. .and so we had SO MUCH FUN. How i wish team captain tiboy reyes was with us..and so I miss the team Franzia Bicol boys too. i will write a short report. with the fotos. when you have time Dennis ill wait for your good report also. again thanks so much to my TEAM FRANZIA..you made all of us VERY PROUD to be a rider in this team.
