and we were off...

after the 15kms neutral area we were flagged off the downhill section from Batulao (nasugbu proper)... this descent can take you up to 70kms. easily on a good day. However as soon as riders hit their downhill strides it starts raining cats and dogs... as in really heavy big raindrops downpour... I checked my speed and not really taking any risk I see we were doing no less than 55kph. I felt nervous at the back so I never was far from the front among the top 15 riders. It was also good shelter from any untoward incident due to the slippery conditions. By the time we hit the bottom of the descent (after 20kms from flag off) I was among the front group only seeing Franzia Teamate and protected rider Pinpin Uy with me.

In the flats there were a couple of attacks but each time being checked by orange jerseyed team TBCI. I know these roads well enough and feeling a bit cocky myself I tested a breakaway after we passed TUY. I was hoping to take 2-3 guys with me then work up a corpo with them and time trial to the foot of Payapa climb which was still 20kms. away. I stayed briefly up front and saw nobody chasing but gave it up after gaining maybe 100meters as my plan to take some chasers never materialized.

Inside Calaca there are many small bridges with very bad surfaces. The pace was high yo-yoing between 40-45kph at the front and it was probably a lull on the concentration of riders but I am sure it was the nervous braking of the guy on my left side that caused a massive and serious spill. Upon breaking due to a narrowing of the pack approaching the bridge the guy behind touched his back wheel and went down really really hard. Next thing I knew this guy sliding sideways towards my path with a nasty "crrruunching" of what I can deduce to be metal and carbon fiber rubbing against the rough asphalt. I narrowly missed the spill as I was near the side then I looked back and saw the guys piling up on the crash... whew!!!

Later I was to find out the guy broke some bones as well as a 2 week old Look bike. Another victim a suunto rider broke his ZIPP wheels... the rest were probably bruised.

Everyone finished with no mishaps despite the atrocious weather...

by the time our cat entered the Payapa foothill I was still among the front group. The attacks came immediately and quick. I stayed at my pace with many others as I know Payapa is 20kms long and should be taken at a steady pace. I stayed with a small group and doing very good pace of about 20-22kph and after the initial Franzia feed where I grabbed an ice cold gatorade which I passed on half empty to suunto rider Bennis Caw I upped my pace taking 3 guys with me. We saw Mrs. Quate (Kaight) Cruz pacing at least 4 other guys and let up our pace to ride alongside her. I checked my speed and she was doing 20kph and I saw her visibly on the rivet. After riding together for a few minutes we started seeing Cat B riders ahead ... struggling and left over from the the group. Then I saw a teammate from catB riding beside Doc Butch Yda and I stood and made a dash to bridge leaving Mrs. Cruz and group. Then teamate does a pull a few hundred meters then gave up... I then took over and saw I was again alone... one by one I was catching riders ahead on the climb... pace was between 20-24kph with the gradient slightly increasing.

Before Fantasy World I saw MJY rider dennis dionisio from cat B resting by the road side. His race was finished.
Next rider I pass was a struggling Deon James from team Xterra (cat B i think).

Before reaching Fantasy world where our next feed was stationed here comes the a train of 5 riders being brought in by Mrs. Ave Chua of team XTerra. I briefly dropped her at the 1st feed station when I worked the pace with Bennis Caw and here she is again. I jokingly told the guys behind her "will you let a lady do the pacing for you" then Ave gave a slight smile. With that said I rode alongside her dodging slow moving vehicles including the Ambulance.

We were now doing very good pace around 24kph when we reached fantasy world with all the team feed stations and with the riders still in contention scrambling for a bottle. Mrs. Ave dashed to her feed overtaking me and crossing my wheel almost bringing me down... no harm done Mrs. Ave. I signal the utilities for a bottle, tossed my empty one and they gave me a new ice cold filled water bottle. I then consumed my 3rd power gel and washed it with the cool water.

Then lo and behold I see Paircargo rider Noel Baltazar beside me. We ride together reaching canyon woods where I later found out our team captain Atty Tiboy Reyes was waiting for a wheel change due to a rear flat. Noel and I work together at a good pace this time overtaking another struggler from CatB Mr. Tony Lopez of team Heritage. Said a brief hi boss Tony and then Noel and I were again off.

We reached the payapa summit together and then as soon as we turned towards tagaytay road I made my attack on Noel... sorry noel but I want to be 3rd rider from our team in cat C to reach finish line. I turned around and Noel was gone. The tagaytay road towards the finish in undulating interrupted with many short hills and downhills. I again reach and pass some riders here including number 1 rider Mr. Alvin Ty (LPGMA big boss) with a Ford explorer support vehicle on his tail. He was riding visibly spent and over took him sprinting for the next group of 5 riders up front. I stayed with this group for the next couple of kms. till we passed Tagaytay Public Market where I put an attack. We dropped 3 and 2 riders stayed with me. Before the start finish was a last small hill... I then attacked here hoping to finish alone but 1 PLDT rider stuck with me and we dropped the lone suunto rider.. and then ther was 2 of us. I ride ITT towing the wheelsucking PLDT rider behind we as I didnt want the last rider we dropped bridging to us. On the line PLDT rider sprints, I didnt contest it and coasted to the finish with ma-look-no-hands style pointing at the FRANZIA logo in front of my jersey for the photographers... and also seeing 4 other teamates at the finishing arc - Ramon and Omar of cat B and Pinpin and Lizton of Cat C. mission accomplished... the cool weather and a new team Kit really does have its effect. Grin

dennis thanks so much for the report....wish i can do as detailed report as you do but i cant....i cant mention anyone i passed....as i am humble chicken pie.... Grin

anyway after you passed ave, dr butch , deon, dennis....you fail to mention you passed me.,

i really dont care who passed me..except im worried i gonna be passed by 9 cat c riders from Franzia....and i will lose the respect of other Franzia teammates if they see im weak climber. truth of the matter i had a knee injury (due to cranking big rings) this right knee injured 2 years ago...resulted in popping sound..irreparable...not serious but once had me asking for the jeepney passenger across me permission to stretch my legs as lactic acid forms on my knee and painful if i dont "pop it"

so for two years i avoided using the big ring...so if i get dropped i dont "fight"

i cant mention anybody i passed.

however suffice to say...past few months im on my 50 teeth compact and the knee popping is gone....so i can ride 50 x 19 and 34 x 23 up payapa.

im awaiting the official results. one of the Cat C riders from suunto...was a real gentleman and approached the organizer. he said he was 2nd and he outsprinted a FRANZIA rider (pinpin uy)...richard said he will review the video then corrct any mistakes in the standings,

bennis caw of team Suunto...is becoming another competitive rider whom i have to beat. he dropped me..i reel him back in..he drops me again at canyon woods. I have no answer anymore....at the awards ceremony...i have to take humble pie...reach out for his hand and say "bennis...you beat me fairly...i lose this race today to you."

animosity towards other teams...never my cup of tea.

i am in a new team now..have to fight till the finish..but when you guys beat me...dont worry i will reach for your hand..acknowledge you are the stronger rider.

im not the last rider to arrive, i did a very good climb with 29kph average...when previously my best was 24kph over 100 kms distance from tagaytay down batulao up payapa finish at gerrys.

that was a fantastic race. hope you guys had as much fun.

thanks again to LPGMA and Arnel ty richard uy and Carlos Gredona the organizers and marshall. thanks for organizing this race

to my team Franzia. we are the new Glamor Team...

i look forward to race with you guys again ....soon.

raymond see

I do accept as true with all of the ideas you have introduced to your post.
They're really convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are very quick for newbies. May you please extend them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
